New Venture Challenge Judge Makes Angel Investment Collin Anderson, a respected entrepreneur in the Chicago community, has made an angel investment in TacitLogic. After gradating from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business with high honors in 1996, Anderson joined the fledgling consumer electronic accessory company, Digital Innovations, as its President and CEO. In this role, he grew sales from $0 to $17M within four years with less than $1M in total paid-in-capital. In 2001, Anderson left Digital Innovations to pursue interests including writing, travel, and education-related volunteer work. Anderson was first introduced to TacitLogic as a judge in the University of Chicago GSB New Venture Challenge finals. Of the company, he states, "I believe that there is a larger opportunity for TacitLogic to provide web-based marketing solutions for attorneys. I view TixNix as an interesting entre into this opportunity." Since May, Anderson has followed the progress of TixNix through Drew Massie, Founder and COO. He explains, "I have been impressed by the team and their ability to execute on plan. I felt that the timing was right to get involved." In addition to his own investment, Anderson has been assisting TacitLogic with its ongoing fund raising initiatives and tapping his own network of angels, angel groups and venture capitalists. His assistance led to the angel investment by Roy Johanson (reported in the November issue of the TixNix Insider). TacitLogic to Use Incubator Space at the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business As one of the winners in the 2004 Edward L. Kaplan New Venture Challenge competition, TacitLogic has been offered incubator space at the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. In 2005, Drew Massie, Founder and COO of TacitLogic, will begin holding office hours within the school's brand new Hyde Park Center. Ellen Rudnick, Executive Director and Clinical Professor at the University of Chicago GSB Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship states, "We are pleased that TacitLogic will be a resident in our ARCH Venture Partners New Business Incubator. This will give us an opportunity to continue to work with TacitLogic and provide the company with access to students, faculty and staff resources." Drew Massie explains, "The Hyde Park Center is state-of-the-art. I am very excited to utilize the new facility and to continue to be a part of the entrepreneurship program at the GSB."
