TixNix Client Case Study - New Orleans Attorney Paul Massa

Before the devastation of hurricane Katrina, Paul Massa ran a thriving practice in New Orleans handling traffic tickets and other criminal matters throughout the state of Louisiana. While he and his family safely evacuated before the storm, his home and law office were completely destroyed by the flooding that left the city submerged for weeks. Virtually all of his family's possessions were wiped out along with his office equipment and files. Just about the only thing left of his practice were the numerous clients that found him through TixNix.

Rebuilding a Practice

"Without TixNix I would have virtually no practice left," explains Paul. "Everything in my office was destroyed, including my files and computers. Even my New Orleans clients are gone, living in different states and there is no telling when the New Orleans court system will be up and running again." Fortunately for Paul, many of his TixNix clients originated from parts of Louisiana that were unaffected by the storm and due to the unique nature of the TixNix system, information on these clients was safely stored on-line. "I was basically able to pick up were I left off with these clients and rescue my livelihood from complete destruction."

TixNix has also been instrumental in helping Paul rebuild his practice. By quickly adding Alabama, Mississippi and part of the Florida pan-handle to his service area, Paul has been able to restore the client volume he needs to operate a successful practice. "Not only am I back in business, but I now have a chance to be even more successful than I was before the storm." says Paul.

"TixNix allows attorneys like Paul to turn informal relationships with other attorneys into powerful networks of lawyers working in concert with one another to market and deliver services to clients." explains Steve Ehrenreich, co-founder of the TacitLogic, the company that built TixNix. "We were able to replace Paul's traditional practice that was destroyed by Katrina with a virtual one that spans four states almost overnight, and we didn't stop there."

Launching KatrinaLegal.com

"As a victim of Hurricane Katrina myself and life long resident of New Orleans, I felt a duty and obligation to help people rebuild their shattered lives." states Paul. "My friends at TacitLogic shared those feeling and together we created KatrinaLegal.com, a service designed to help the countless victims sort out the myriad of legal difficulties that have and will result from this disaster." KatrinaLegal is built on the same TacitLogic software and networking platform that runs TixNix. Attorneys from Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida are working together with students from Tulane Law School to offer information, advice and legal services to victims of hurricane Katrina and more recently, Hurricane Rita.

Although KatrinaLegal.com has only been operating for a couple of weeks the stories that are coming in are truly heartbreaking. Identity theft, denied insurance claims, missing loved ones and endless bureaucratic obstacles are just a small sample. "From a personal nightmare that lasted for months comes a legal nightmare that will last for years." explains Paul. "KatrinaLegal will be a powerful tool to help countless thousands of victims restore and rebuild."

Southern Lawyers Band Together To Offer Legal Aid to Hurricane Katrina Victims

Paul Massa was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. After graduating with his BA and law degree from Tulane University, he settled in to the city that gave the world jazz, jambalaya and Mardi Gras to practice law. And, like every other resident of New Orleans, his world was turned upside down by Hurricane Katrina two weeks ago.

“I lost everything,” Massa says. “From my personal possessions to my office files, there wasn't a whole lot that I could salvage. The only thing I have left is my experience and my time. Seeing how many people are in need, I can't let those go to waste too.”

Working from borrowed office space in Atlanta, Paul joined forces with legal consulting firm TacitLogic LLC to create a network of lawyers and law students to provide legal and insurance resources to residents of Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana affected by Hurricane Katrina's destructive forces.

Swedish Company Offers Speeding Ticket Insurance
TheNewspaper.com - Washington, DC
Bisso is offering an 850 kroner (US $113) insurance policy against speeding tickets to motorists in Sweden. Those who take advantage of the policy will be covered against the cost of up to three fines a year as long as they are for doing less than 19 MPH over the speed limit. The insurance, however, only covers the cost of the ticket and does not protect against license suspensions. Swedish speeding fines run between 800 and 2000 kroner (US $106-$267). An optional extension adds coverage against the country's 425 to 700 kroner (US $56-$93) parking tickets. Full Article

Speed Trap Towns Draw Complaints
The Ledger - Lakeland, FL
The AAA calls them speed traps. Some residents call them safe havens. Whatever the label, the small towns of Waldo and Lawtey get a bad reputation for enforcing their speed limits -- a stigma that frustrates A.W. Smith, Waldo's police chief. Waldo and Lawtey are the only towns in the United States designated by AAA as speed traps. Full Article
