A 97-year old woman was arrested, handcuffed (behind the back) and taken to jail in the upscale Highland Park suburb of Dallas last week for having an outstanding warrant for failing to pay a traffic ticket.

Breathalyzer source code must be disclosed

Florida police can't use electronic breathalyzers as courtroom evidence against drivers unless the innards are disclosed, a state court ruled Wednesday. "Unless the defense can see how the breathalyzer works," the judges wrote, the device amounts to "nothing more than a 'mystical machine' used to establish an accused's guilt."

Officers Back Claim Of Quota On Tickets

A University of South Florida professor turned a traffic ticket into a federal lawsuit because she thinks the Tampa Police Department has a ticket quota. It turns out many officers think that too, according to testimony in the case and interviews with department and union officials.
